John Riordan

Director - Contracting & Technology

Originally from Ireland and now a proud Australian, I have been recruiting and managing recruitment teams in Melbourne for more than a decade. Having started as a contract recruiter, I have recruited for all role types and levels over this time, from entry-level positions to C-suite. At Miller Leith, I am responsible for the national contracting practice, and contracting has always been where I have felt most at home in the recruitment industry.

What’s important to you?

As an experienced recruitment leader with a young family, what’s most important to me is delivering outcomes for my organisation, providing support and adding value to my colleagues, and being present for my growing family. Underpinning all of this is the desire to have fun along the way.

What is something quirky about you?

I don’t know if I would consider myself quirky, but the only sports I truly follow are Boxing and MMA and all things fighting. All other sports are just a bit vanilla in comparison, however I still can enjoy most sports, on occasion.

What motivates you about the Recruitment Industry?

What motivates me in the recruitment industry is the opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives. Finding the perfect fit between a candidate and a company can be incredibly rewarding, knowing that I’ve helped someone advance their career while also contributing to a company’s success.

The dynamic nature of recruitment, where no two days are the same, keeps me engaged and challenged, and the ability to constantly learn and grow in this field is highly motivating.

My teammates would describe me as…

I believe that my teammates would describe me as a dedicated and supportive colleague who would be there to offer support, advice, or be a friendly ear when needed. Overall, I strive to create a positive and collaborative atmosphere within the team, where everyone feels valued and supported.
